Although consumer-based website design and hosting company Weebly is progressive by nature, it by no means discounts the past. For the second time in just two years, the company relocated its
headquarters to another historic building—this time at 460 Bryant Street in
San Francisco’s SoMa district.
Originally a liquor distribution warehouse built in 1907, Weebly’s new
space, designed by Huntsman Architectural Group, reflects the company’s
culture and brand in a very tangible way: open, approachable, and high quality.
Key to achieving these goals was the careful selection of furnishings, fixtures,
and finishes that seamlessly bridge the past with the future.
“We really wanted to highlight, obviously, the [structure] itself by not building
over all the beautiful wood columns and by exposing as much brick as we
could possibly do, and then laying the floors with concrete and going for that
industrial look,” said Elisa Beaty, LEED AP, associate at Huntsman.
Beaty explained the young tech company liked the idea of blending the
contemporary with the historic but without being mismatched; product specification helped realize the vision.
“So [specifying] some softer seating and just some oversized lighting that
would kind of strike your eye but not take away from the building itself were
some of the things we wanted to do.”
The client also wanted employees to feel excited about coming to work,
and so workspaces needed to be complemented with amenities and spaces
to step away to. To that end, the space features an employee dining area that
sits 200 comfortably in long picnic tables, an in-house gym and fitness room,
massage rooms, a game room, showers and changing rooms, and a mother’s
room. Staff wellness is a corporate priority.
The space is the perfect marriage of past and present, and fosters an
atmosphere to help launch the next great technology idea.
